Completed building scenario: Residential, exposed mass timber
Mass timber compartment with exposed mass timber beam, columns, and ceiling with a residential fuel load.
Test structure after ignition of the fire test in the compartment on the second storey (left window). (Approximate time after ignition: 3 minutes)
Fire starting to spread along the ceiling and residential fuel load within the compartment is starting to ignite. (Approximate time after ignition: 4 minutes)
Flashover has occurred within the compartment, causing ignition of all combustible contents. (Approximate time after ignition: 6 minutes)
Compartment contents are continuing to burn. A large flame extension from the compartment can be seen coming out of the window (Approximate time after ignition: 10 minutes)
Fire is in the initial stage of dying down in the compartment. Flaming along the ceiling, and beam can be seen to be reducing, and the flame coming out of the window have decreased in size. (Approximate time after ignition: 20 minutes)
Fire is dying down in the compartment. Flaming coming out of the window have stopped, leaving the ceiling, beam, columns, and contents to self extinguish. (Approximate time after ignition: 30 minutes)
Significant fire decay with little to no visual flaming on any mass timber elements as the residential fuel load has been consumed. Remaining fuel contents flaming on the floor continuing to create minor smoke and heat. (Approximate time after ignition: 60 minutes)
